What program is the best?
Initially I wanted to start my first week off by figuring out basic skills for photo editing such as blurring and sharpening images. I decided it was more important to research what was the best software to use first. I did this by looking at several sites and comparing reviews on different programs. I took some of the most recurring ones and listed them below.
These programs had to meet the demands of what I wished to accomplish.
- Blurring/Sharpening
- Color Altering
- Image erasing
- lighting changes
- Cropping
- Layering
Pixlr: This was reviewed as being user friendly but it did not have the advanced capabilities like layering, that I desired. Unless of course, I wanted to buy the licensed version.
Paint.NET: This covered all the bases for desired capabilities but it was only available for Windows operating system.
Picasa: This was reviewed as very effective and simple to use. It was only capable of minor photo editing however.
Adobe Photoshop: This was common on every list of best programs. It has a wide range of tools and is rather user friendly. Considering how well known the software is too, it will be easy to look up tutorials on how to use it. I consider this my top option and will be working with it in the future.
It was defiantly a good idea to begin by searching for the right software as opposed to just jumping into the editing. When I experimented with video editing last year for a class project, I made the mistake of using one of the first programs I found, and attempted to use it without instruction. I wound up figuring it out for the most part, but my mistake cost me a lot of time and effort, as well as a few key editing features that I was unable to include in my project. Photo editing seems to be a valuable skill in today's world and I am excited to see what you are able to produce!
