 The list

Overall this week
  • I studied how cursive letters connect to each other
  • I did listening exercises
  • I did duolingo
  • I was unable to start Pimsleur
  • Time management was difficult
Studying cursive letters
I hadn't previously considered how to connect the Russian letters but I found it essential information as I continued my writing practice.  Many of the letters have unique ways to connect to each other.  I was able to learn how to do this through multiple YouTube videos.

Listening exercises
For listening I resorted to using my movies and music.  I would watch or listen and try to pick out words that I recognized.  Not only does this improve listening capabilities, but it improves confidence with understanding it as a whole.  There are many words that I don't recognize though and that makes the process a little difficult.

Duolingo
My duolingo is progressing slowly.  Some days the lessons make a lot of sense to me and I get through several of them.  Other days the lessons are very difficult and I end up losing lives and having to go back to the basics.  Building a solid foundation is key to learning the language though, so it doesn't upset me much.

Pimsleur
Pimsleur is the program that will be given to me by Rotary to study the language.  I had planned to have it by now but that has not happened.  This is due to some difficulties with Russia itself as I can not study the language until I am ensured a spot in the country.

Time management
My schedule this past week was extremely packed.  I had more homework than usual and I was out of town a bit.  I also had to put a lot of time aside to study for the academic world quest competition this following week.  It was very difficult to get to Russian with all the other tasks.

Future plans
This upcoming week, I plan to focus more on my duolingo lessons.  While I am doing them, I also plan on writing out phrases that I remember so that the information sticks better.

  1. The list format that you used for this blog works very well with what you've been learning. Are you going to continue with Russian for your last few Genius Hours even though that country fell through?

    1. Yes I will continue through the genius hour with Russian just because we are so far into it, and because I still hope to go some time in the future.

  2. Sounds like you have been very busy. Sometimes it’s hard to read cursive in English, I couldn’t imagine trying to read it in Russian. Also, have you picked up the accent or is that another battle? Keep up the solid work!

    1. It depends. When I hear the word it is much easier to speak it accurately and with an accent, but when I read it I need to take time to sound it out sometimes so I'm positive it doesn't sound native then.

  3. OK so this looks extremely hard and confusing. Even though you separated the letters I cannot tell the slightest bit of difference. Continue learning this impossible language and have fun.
